Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-05-23
This Privacy Policy applies to the GeoQuiz: Flags & Capitals mobile application (the “Application”) for iOS and Android, published on the App Store and Google Play. By using the Application you agree to this policy. If anything is unclear, please contact us at merbelcorp@outlook.com.
What the Application stores on your device
GeoQuiz is designed to work offline. The following information is stored only on your device in local storage and is not transmitted to us:
- Your in-app profile: chosen nickname (up to 21 characters) and an avatar icon and color picked from a built-in list.
- Game progress: XP, level, daily streak, per-country mastery, Journey stages and Daily Challenge state.
- App preferences: language, theme, sound, haptics, animation and high-contrast toggles.
- Whether you completed onboarding and whether you granted notification permission.
We do not run any backend account system. There is no sign-up, no login, and no cloud sync of your profile or progress. Uninstalling the Application removes all of this data.
Information collected by third-party services
The Application uses a small number of third-party SDKs. Each provider operates under its own privacy policy:
- Apple App Store / StoreKit (iOS) — handles app delivery, subscription purchases, and basic install/usage analytics that Apple collects on our behalf. Apple Privacy.
- Google Play / Play Billing (Android) — handles app delivery, subscription purchases, and basic install/usage statistics that Google collects on our behalf. Google Privacy.
- Google AdMob — serves banner, interstitial and rewarded ads in the free tier. AdMob may collect a device advertising identifier and basic technical information to serve and measure ads. Google Privacy.
- RevenueCat — processes Premium subscription state. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-user identifier and your purchase receipt; it does not receive your name, email, or profile data. RevenueCat Privacy.
- Expo / Expo Updates — used to build and, if applicable, deliver over-the-air updates. Expo may receive technical information about your device and app version. Expo Privacy.
- Google Firebase Analytics — measures aggregate product usage so we can understand which features people use and where to focus improvements. Firebase Analytics processes a Firebase-generated installation identifier and basic technical information (app version, device model, OS version, language, approximate country derived from IP). It does not receive your nickname, avatar, email, exact location, or device advertising identifier. Collection can be turned off at any time from Settings → Analytics inside the Application; see the “Analytics” section below. Firebase Privacy.
Analytics
To improve the Application we collect aggregate, non-personal usage events through Google Firebase Analytics. Examples of events we send: onboarding completed, a practice or Journey session started or finished (with score and accuracy), a level-up or streak milestone reached, the Premium screen opened, a Premium purchase completed, and user feedback submitted. Each event may include simple game parameters (such as session mode, question count, or stage identifier) but never any personal information.
Firebase Analytics also automatically records a small set of standard events on Google’s side, including app open, screen views, and an anonymous session identifier. This data is associated with a Firebase-generated installation ID rather than your name or account.
Your control. You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Analytics. When disabled, both our custom events and Firebase’s automatic events stop being sent from your device. This setting is independent from the advertising consent described below — turning off analytics does not affect ads, and turning off personalized ads does not by itself stop analytics.
Advertising and your consent
In the free tier the Application displays banner, interstitial and rewarded ads through Google AdMob. Ads can be served in two ways: personalized (targeted using a device advertising identifier and ad-interaction signals) or non-personalized (based only on coarse context such as the app and approximate region). We ask for your consent before serving personalized ads, as described below. Either way, you will see a similar number of ads.
EU, UK and Switzerland (GDPR consent). If your device is located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the Application shows a Google-certified consent form on first launch, provided through Google’s User Messaging Platform. You can accept or decline personalized ads there. If you decline, you will still see ads, but non-personalized ones. You can change this choice at any time from Settings → Ad & privacy settings inside the Application.
iOS App Tracking Transparency. On iOS, the Application also presents Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. Personalized ads on iOS are used only if you allow tracking there; if you deny it, ads remain non-personalized regardless of the consent form above. You can revisit this choice in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Outside the regions listed above, where applicable law does not require a consent form, personalized ads may be served by default; you can still opt out via the iOS prompt or your device’s advertising settings. The fastest way to remove all ads on any platform is to subscribe to Premium.
Subscriptions and purchases
Premium is an auto-renewing subscription managed by the app store you installed from (Apple App Store on iOS, Google Play on Android). We never see or store your payment information. RevenueCat keeps an anonymized record of your entitlement so that the Application can recognize you as a Premium user across reinstalls on the same store account.
Notifications
With your permission, the Application may send local notifications as daily reminders. Notifications are scheduled on-device. We do not run a push-notification server and do not have a list of your device tokens.
Children’s privacy
GeoQuiz is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information to the Application, please contact us at merbelcorp@outlook.com and we will take appropriate action.
Your US privacy rights
If you are a resident of California or another US state with a consumer privacy law (such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas and others), you have additional rights regarding your personal information.
Categories of information. As described above, GeoQuiz itself does not run a backend account system; your game data stays on your device. The categories of information involved in this context are limited to: (i) the device advertising identifier and related technical and ad-interaction data processed by Google AdMob to serve and measure ads in the free tier, and (ii) the Firebase installation identifier and aggregate usage events processed by Google Firebase Analytics for product analytics, which you can turn off as described below.
“Sale” and “sharing.” We do not sell your personal information for money. However, the use of advertising identifiers for personalized ads may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” (for cross-context behavioral advertising) under some US state laws.
Your rights. Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information is processed, to request its deletion, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
How to opt out of personalized ads. You can opt out at any time:
- In the Application, under Settings → Ad & privacy settings, where applicable a US privacy choice is offered through Google’s consent tools.
- On iOS, by denying tracking in the App Tracking Transparency prompt or in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- On Android, via Settings → Google → Ads.
- By subscribing to Premium, which removes all ads entirely.
You may also exercise any of these rights, or ask a question about them, by emailing us at merbelcorp@outlook.com. We honor a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where it applies.
Your choices
- Delete all data: uninstall the Application from your device.
- Stop ads: subscribe to Premium, which removes all ads.
- Analytics: in the Application, under Settings → Analytics, you can turn off all analytics collection.
- Personalized-ads consent: in the Application, under Settings → Ad & privacy settings.
- Manage Premium: iOS — Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions; Android — Google Play → Payments & subscriptions.
- Ad tracking (iOS): Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Ad personalization (Android): Settings → Google → Ads.
- Notifications: in your device’s system Settings for GeoQuiz.
Security
Because game data lives on your device, its security is governed by your device’s own protections (passcode, Face ID, full-device encryption). We strongly advise against jailbreaking your device, which can compromise these protections.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at this URL with an updated effective date. Material changes will also be reflected in the App Store listing.
